Despite the fact that Valentines Day is named after Saint Valentine, a Christian saint who was martyred, the day has come to represent the expression of love and romance.
Valentines Day, February 14, is this coming Sunday and we've got a few ideas to help you "get in the mood" ranging from racy to romantic.
If music is your thing, there are two concerts to choose from. Maria Muldaur's appearance at 142 Throckmorton on Saturday, February 13th is billed as "A Romantic Evening of Music for Lovers." Her soulful singing has delighted fans in SF and Marin for decades and she'll sing classic songs of "love, lust and passion" to inspire the lover in each of us. Room to dance and sweet treats to sample.

If you prefer R & B, then the Tim Hockenberry Band might be right up your alley. Combining elements of rhythm and blues, rock and jazz, Tim's singing and piano-playing hit just the right notes. His reputation is growing as "one of the great innovative singers and compelling song stylists in America today." The Tim Hockenberry Band will be performing on Saturday at the Mill Valley Masonic.

If dancing is more your thing, here's a chance to cut up the dance floor, and for a good cause. Gilead House is holding a Valentine's Dance at the American Legion Hall in Larkspur. It's to benefit Gilead House, an organization that helps single moms with children get back on their feet. Open bar and heavy appetizers included in the $75 ticket price.

From the south — Cross the Golden Gate Bridge and take the second exit Alexander Avenue. Get in the left lane following signs that read "101 San Francisco." Turn left at the stop sign and cross under the freeway. Turn right onto Conzelman Road and drive 1.8 miles to Hawk Hill. Park alongside the road at the top of the hill, just before the road becomes one way. Walk up the west side of Hawk Hill past the locked gate. It's just a few hundred feet to the summit.From the north — after going through the Waldo Tunnel, take the last Sausalito exit to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (the signs read Golden Gate National Recreation Area/Sausalito). Be careful—it is a short exit ramp with a stop sign at the bottom. Stay to the left. Turn left at the stop sign then make an immediate right up the hill onto Conzelman Road. Stay on Conzelman Road for 1.8 miles. Park alongside the road at the top of the hill, just before the road becomes one way. Walk up the west side of Hawk Hill past the locked gate. It's just a few hundred feet to the summit.
