On August 26, 1998, young Jonathan Kathrein was nearly killed by a great white shark as he surfed the waters off Stinson Beach.
The shark managed to severe Jonathan's quadriceps on his right leg just above the kneecap. After seven hours of surgery and hundreds of stitches, Jonathan began his journey back to physical and mental recovery.
Since that day, he's gone on to write a book about his experience, called Don't Fear the Shark, graduate from UC Berkeley and co-found a non-profit organization called Future Leaders of Peace. He currently works as a motivational speaker and lecturer.
Jonathan's mom, Margaret Kathrein, has written a new book called Far From Shore: A Mother's Memoir of a Shark Attack, and the two of them will appear in person at Wipeout Bar and Grill in Greenbrae this Thursday, December 3 at 6:30 p.m. for a book release and book signing party.
Here's a compilation news video of Jonathan's experience-- the first three minutes are the best-

Thanks Pam! We hope you will join us for the book signing party on Thursday!!

This book has been a work-in-progress for a long time. We're thrilled it's finally a reality. We could not have survived this experience without the support of our friends and neighbors in Marin. Thank you everyone. We must all help one another.
