A plan to build a 6,600+ square-foot warehouse on the Sausalito waterfront for his fancy car and boat collection, has been withdrawn by Marin billionaire Vijay Mallya. Mallya withdrew his request after he heard city planning officials were about to deny his bid due to zoning issues.
The warehouse would have been located near a vacant lot that abuts Dunphy Park along the waterfront. The original plan also contained a provision for Mallya to rehabilitate the lot with with new footpaths, landscaping and bike paths as an expansion of Dunphy Park. He also agreed initially to pay for the expanded park maintenance but later withdrew his offer after getting lots of vocal opposition to his plan by area residents.
Mallya's spokesperson indicated they would 'table the application to a date uncertain until such time that our differences with the city can be resolved' according to this IJ article.
Mallya owns Kingfisher Airlines and Kingfisher Brewery in India as well as the Marinscope Newspaper in Marin.

Definitely the wrong place to store a car collection...Unless one simply wants to watch the collection to decay. There are many more suitable locations in the Bay Area to house cars and boats away from a corrosive enviornment. Hire me and I will help put together a cool spot.
