Joseph R. Fink, who has been president of Dominican University in San Rafael for over two decades, will retire his position on June 30, 2011.
Dr. Fink, who was appointed president in 1988, transformed the bucolic University with assets of just $15 million and enrollment of 650, into a robust learning institution with enrollment of well over 2,000 students and assets topping $100 million, during his tenure. According to the University, with 21 years of service, Dr. Fink is the "longest sitting president among all Bay Area institutions of higher learning."
Originally, Dr. Fink wanted to retire in 2010, but the Board of Trustees asked him to stay in place for an additional year to oversee implementation of the Strategic Institutional Plan, fundraising for two major projects and the transition of the University's athletic programs to NCAA Division II. Dominican has enjoyed a jump in enrollment in recent years and is recognized for its strong programs in art, communications, nursing, education and environmental studies. It is especially renowned for offering the Green MBA.
According to the University, Dr. Fink will remain as President Emeritus for at least one year after his retirement.
