Whoooo showed up at the annual Evening with Owls fundraiser at Marin Art and Garden Center on Friday night? A lot of supporters of the Hungry Owl Project (HOP) and some real, live owls too.
The popular gala celebration featured the feathered goodwill ambassadors from HOP, an organization whose mission is to eradicate harmful pesticides by encouraging natural predators through conservation of habitat and construction of nest boxes. They also promote research, education and information on sustainable pest management.
Owl-lovers enjoyed food, wine, lectures, owl-inspired auction items and interaction with the owls and MoreMarin's photo-intern Gina Batz, was there to grab the action.

On Nov 20, 2009, I attended the WildCare's Hungry Owl Project's Evening with live Owls on display at Ross Art and Garden Center. It was a spectacular evening, with excellent appetizers, light dinner, and delicious desserts and drinks. The always-entertaining Joe Mueller, a biology Professor at College of Marin, was the guest speaker. Joe led everyone in owe. Joe has so much to offer and he offers so much that is impossible for anyone who knows him to ever forget him.
Professor Mueller gave two short educational talks -- each 19 minutes. There was also a live auction for about half an hour which Joe made it so exciting.
I really enjoyed being there and seeing these live owls-- Bared owl, Western screech owl, and Eurasia eagle owl. Eurasia eagle owls are larger than Great Horned owls. They have orange eyes, and they are very diverse in their feeding habit. It was reported that Eurasia eagle owl may hunt a 6 pound deer!! I think owls are one of God's marvels.
There was no trash; everything they used for this event was sustainable. As they said, "When there is a will, there is a way." It would never be the same without Joe.
I left the place with a sense of wonder!
