With Thanksgiving here, and Christmas just around the corner, who doesn't appreciate a few freebies?
We've got several sample giveaways, some holiday cheer, a very special art exhibit and a free movie screening of a classic that you won't want to miss.
Check it out!
Speaking of holiday cheer, if you have had just a bit too much cheer, you can get a free car tow home on Thanksgiving, and also on Christmas Eve, courtesy of AAA. It's called the AAA Tipsy Tow Program. All you have to do is call 1 800 AAA- HELP and tell them you need a "tipsy tow" and they will tow your car to your home, free of charge, within five miles.
Some of you may need to jump-start your Holiday mood, so here are two events to get you started. The day after Thanksgiving, November 27, is the San Rafael Parade of Lights Winter Wonderland. Downtown San Rafael is transformed into a winter wonderland with a holiday marketplace, children's activities, snow sledding and of course, the parade. And it's all totally free!
The following week on December 4, it's A Storybook Holiday Festival in Tiburon. This free, magical event, "reminiscent of idyllic small town Norman Rockwell holiday pictorials", features carolers, costumed characters, holiday treats, and events for the kids including gingerbread house-making and face painting.
Along that classic mode, is another event entirely. It's a free showing of Charlie Chaplin's 1936 celluloid masterpiece, Modern Times. The one-time movie event is part of the new film series, Everybody's Classic, at the Christopher B Smith Rafael Film Center. Modern Times screening is on November 29 at 12 noon, and it's free to the public.
If art is more your thing, then consider this special exhibit. Bolinas resident Charles Fox, is a father, photographer, journalist and novelist. He is also nearly blind and confined to a wheelchair, the results of the ravages of multiple sclerosis. Fox, when diagnosed with MS in the 1970s, began taking a series of photographs of his children as his body began to fail. Those photos were forgotten until a caregiver discovered the negatives in his home and printed large, wall-size gelatin silver prints.
The black and white photos have been described as having "unreal quality: horses inside houses, children at play by the sea, in
the desert, apparently on the moon. There is energy in these
photographs rarely found in still photography." This free exhibit is currently at Commonweal in Bolinas, and it's showing until January 8.
Lastly, here are a bunch of online free offers that we found thanks to Michael Finney's consumer blog. They range from a free 2010 calendar, to a free protein drink to free vitamins to a free perfume sample and finally, a free eye cream.
Here's to freebies!
