We don't live there, but we still got a couple of campaign emails from two candidates locked in a bitter battle for a Sausalito City Council seat.
Buddy DeBruyn and Carolyn Ford are still slinging the mud even as voters are about to go to the polls Tuesday in a special election over a seat vacated by City Councilwoman Amy Belser. Each candidate is accusing the other of spreading misinformation and falsehoods.
Here are a couple of excerpts from the emails.
"...When my opponent submitted illegal campaign reports, she was reported to the state's campaign policing agency and on October 28 was found guilty of 12 violations of the Political Reform Act. When challenged at the Lions Club debate this past week, my opponent said she never called me a developer… to loud hoots and hollers from the crowd. The next day another one of her 4 negative mailers, all misleading, hit voters which again implied she thinks of me as the development candidate. She makes charges in her mail that she cannot defend in public..."
"...I apologize for using "In the Loop" to contact you about a political matter, but my opponent in the race for City Council has leveled scurrilous charges using this list that I feel must not go unanswered. I am a candidate in tomorrow's special election for City Council and my opponent Buddy DeBruyn is spreading false and misleading information.
I had hoped to keep this campaign on a higher plane, but Buddy's claim that he has "run a completely positive campaign" is abjectly false. He attacked me in the mail with a hit piece two weeks ago that was distributed through the Marin Scope newspaper and left on doorsteps. I felt it was important to get my side of the story out..."
This isn't unexpected. The two have been locked in a contentious fight for a few weeks.
As they say, may the best (wo)man win!
