Slowly the zombies and undead began to dance in unison at precisely 5:30 p.m. in downtown Sausalito. The approximately fifty or so who showed up, were part of the world-wide record attempt for the simultaneous Thriller dance, Thrill the World, a posthumous tribute to the iconic song and video creator, pop superstar Michael Jackson.
Zombies large and small, joined hundreds of other Bay Area, national and international locations tried to make it a record.
For many it was their first time as a dancer and participant in Thrill the World. The McCoy's (pictured below) came over from Berkeley and loved very minute.
"It was awesome, it was hilarious," said Paul McCoy, "It was very difficult not to laugh the entire time, but you're supposed to be a zombie so you're really not supposed to be laughing."
There were several practices leading up to the event but the McCoys had only signed up and practiced just before the event.
A good-sized crowd of locals and tourists gathered to cheer the dancers on, and boats parked dockside honked their horns.
When it was all over everyone gathered for a little post-Thriller chat and crossed fingers hoping they had just set a world record.
If not, there's always next year.
Our friends, Shelley and Dave Champine of Marin Local Music, were an event sponsor and they have photos here, and they shot a cool video which we've posted at the end. MoreMarin photo album here.
