Paragraphs by Paul Miller
A fly on the wall in a cell built for one person, but holding two inmates at San Quentin Prison, taped the following conversation and then emailed me the transcript, some which follows--
Inmate#0002: "Four hundred mil! They're 'murder one' and worse convicts! Some are over there in D.R. for slaughtering little kids and women besides their mother-in-laws. Seven hundred of those guys are waiting to go down. Some for decades, man! They already have frigging private crappers, sinks, and beds in private cells where a bull delivers specially prepared meals, and they have their own lawyers up the yingyang. We've got some bad dudes here in Q, but also some frigging certified idiots operating this prison system out of Sacramento."
Inmate#0001: "So unlike the Death Row cons, we're stuck in this closet, ass to elbow, bad medical care, groveling around in the general population with a chance at any moment to get pig stuck in the main yard or mess hall, and we have never laid a hand on any free person! Give me a frigging break."
Inmate#0002: "I was reading in the IJ that Jarhead Huffman--"Inmate#0001: "--Huffman was a Marine?"
Inmate#0002: "I meant 'Jared'. Jared is fighting to dump that frigging idiotic Hotel Death Row plan that Schwarzenegger has got the hots for. Huffman wants to level this whole gawd rotten dump and build a terminal for the high speed rail trains and ferries that will be here about the time I'm paroled."Inmate#0001: "Do you think the free people out there are savvy enough to follow Jarhead on this mission or dumb enough to waddle behind a governor who has damned near been the terminator of this state?"
Inmate#0002: "I wish I could smoke."
