Marin swimmers, surfers and sand-castle-builders have a reason to celebrate!
Marin county beaches rated tops (including Stinson pictured at right) in having crystal-clear and pollution-free waters according to the Natural Resources Defense Council which just released their "Testing the Waters" study. The study showed that Bay Area beaches, as a whole, dropped 25% from 2007 to 2008 in beach closures and alerts due to pollution and contaminants.
Still, many municipality beaches in California showed significant pollution levels that exceeded health and safety standards on several days when tested. About 90 beaches in the Bay Area were tested, and Marin scored at the top.
Here are a few photos of the Marin beaches that showed virtually no pollution. From top to bottom--Bolinas Beach; Dillon Beach; Muir Beach and Rodeo Beach.
