Prison officials at San Quentin State Prison have quarantined 800 inmates after several prisoners came down with flu symptoms and a handful initially tested positive for the H1N1 virus.
It will take another week and a half to confirm the results.
No visitors for the quarantined prisoners will be allowed beginning this weekend, according to this SFGate article. The prisoners will also be confined to one cell block and not allowed to mix among the general prison population.
A Marin County woman who had the swine flu virus died earlier this week. She was the first confirmed death in Marin due to the virus. And last week, a Mill Valley man who was visiting Canada, reportedly died as a result of the swine flu, although health officials here haven't confirmed that.
The deputy public health officer, Dr. Anju Goel told MoreMarin that the county has noticed more 'positives' [people testing positive for H1N1] in the last couple of weeks.
