Eva, a black and white cat with a tiny mustache that gives her a Charlie Chaplin look, is busy sniffing and exploring the brand new community cat room. Sitting close by on one of the new all-weather wicker chairs and looking like a cloud, is Nimbus, a fluffy all-white male.
Eva and Nimbus were getting acquainted with their brand new temporary home, the newly rebuilt Cat Adoption Center, at the Marin Humane Society in Novato. The new facility- which includes several large, spacious community cat rooms as well as smaller kitty condos- is finished and about two dozen shelter cats have just been brought into their new digs.
Suzy Golt, the executive director for the Marin Humane Society was there to greet the cats and the people-
The former cat adoption area was cramped, and tiny cages made it a challenge for potential adopters to interact with the potential adoptees. Now, the small companion animals, like guinea pigs and bunnies, will be housed in the former cat cages.
The new "catteries" as they are sometimes called, are beautiful, light and airy. There are maple perches on the walls, each one with a soft, chenille pad on top. The litter boxes are housed in small enclosures giving the kitties a sense of privacy. There are comfortable wicker chairs, and a beautifully lacquered and highly functional cement floor that looks 'industrial chic.'
The remodel which took about four months, was headed by Design/Build Specialists also based in Novato. V.P. Bill Johnson- who has previous experience designing another animal center project, and hopes to do more- was enthusiastic-
Meanwhile, the rest of the cats sniffed, climbed, purred and settled into their beautiful, new temporary homes.
We think that assessment is purrrfectly on target.
=================================================
The Cat Adoption Center is phase 2 of the a three-phase remodel and rebuild project at the Marin Humane Society. The last phase will be the new Intake Center, a 1,200 foot area that will allow animals to be processed in conjunction with the Pet Partnership Program. That's a program where other overcrowded shelters can transfer their animals to Marin. The new intake center will also be used to process animals displaced by disaster.
The MHS is a non-profit organization and gratefully accept donations of time, money and resources.

The new shelter looks great, and the cats look very comfortable. Best from http://adoptapet.com

Looks like a very nice and interesting idea, but the problem is, how much it will cost the homeowner for the service of the interior designer who will give input........
