The heat didn't prevent wine-lovers and food-fanciers from turning out in droves to sample the treats down at the 28th annual Wine and Gourmet Food Tasting in downtown Mill Valley on Sunday.
At the top of MoreMarin's list was the Dry Creek Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc, a beautiful, crisp and flavorful white wine that was perfect in the heat. The wine contrasted nicely with the smoky and spicy chicken wings drenched in Kathy's Gourmet Specialties Cajun Spice. Another favorite treat was the Robert Rothschild Farm roasted garlic, onion and fig jam spread on crackers.
And our top dessert of the day? Easily the cupcakes from Sweet Things in Tiburon. We kept going back for more of those.
One of the most surprising treats was Golden Star Tea. The beautifully bottled sparkling tea offered a fizzy alternative to alcohol. The tea is fermented and then it goes through another fermentation to remove the alcohol. What is left is wonderfully flavorful and sparkling beverage that is not too sweet and utterly refreshing.
Food Network star Chef Tyler Florence had a near constant line of fans waiting to sample his specially created dish for the tasting event, "Grilled Strawberry Sandwich" which included Petaluma brie and locally grown organic strawberries, heaped on a split La Boulange brioche that had been grilled in soft butter and dusted with confectioners sugar. Divine! Tyler is pictured to the left with an assistant as they assemble the sandwiches.
The food tasting event benefits the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce and is sponsored by the Mill Valley Market.
