No Sweetwater In Marin For Now
After this weekend, Marin will be without a Sweetwater music venue for the foreseeable future.
The Sweetwater Station in Larkspur is closing down, with the owners, Thom and Becky Steere, claiming their lease had been terminated. The Station opened after the previous Sweetwater, the Sweetwater Saloon in Mill Valley, closed due to landlord issues. The photo to the left is musician Matt Jaffe performing at the Station last summer.
In it's heydey, the Saloon was the setting for a who's who of musical talent who performed for Marin County music lovers for over three decades. Marin superstars from Carlos Santana to Huey Lewis and the News to Bonnie Raitt performed there.
The Steere's had plans to re-open the Saloon in a new location in Mill Valley, and had already secured a former store around the corner from the old club, but those plans appear to have stalled due to financial problems. The Steere's website was last updated in March and is heavy on solicitations.
The last show is this Saturday night. The IJ has more.
