We know it's not Tuesday, but we're doing the poll anyway. Yesterday, in a 5-4 vote, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a law in D.C. that bans owning handguns, the strictest gun control law in the country. How do you feel about that?

Until this week the Supreme Court believed that the constitution should be read as it was written. You can't pick and choose what you want. The second amendment says:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
The NRA likes to think there is an "and" between "free State" and "the right". In fact if you look closely there is no "and".
Clearly "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms" was intended to be part of the "well regulated Militia".
This does not mean that people don't have the right to keep a weapon at home for protection (as though having a gun at home makes you safer). It just means that the Constitution does not guarantee it.
If you believe that you can pick and choose what words you want from the constitution I suppose you would argue that the reason the authors of the 2nd amendment put that in was because the 10 commandments say "Thou shall ... kill". Who needs the word "not"
